The Memorial Mandala for 9/11 so meaningful!

Kimberly Carmody, the founder of Urban River Arts,  facilitated the creation and dismantling of this interactive memorial in the circular form of a Mandala. Visitors remembered those who were lost in the World Trade Centers by transforming natural materials such as stones, seeds, shells and mulch into the colors and textures of the installation. Throughout the day, the Memorial Mandala grew from the center outwards into a magnificent work of art. Within the design two empty rectangles eventually emerged and symbolically held the space for prayers offered in remembrance of loved ones. At the end of the day, the circle was broken and the energy released in a ceremony in which the completed Mandala was dismantled and all of the materials, sorted and composted.
