Kimberly Carmody, the Founder, Executive Director and Principal Teacher of Urban River Arts has diverse experience as an art educator that ranges from teaching in independent schools to working with autistic, multiply disabled and emotionally disturbed students in District 75 of the Department of Education in New York City. Her discovery that most students’ greatest need is for a social/emotional curriculum that focuses on building self-confidence and developing the practices of respect and compassion in everyday life is what lead Ms. Carmody to open Urban River Arts in February of 2009.

Ms. Carmody is an artist, a certified New York State art educator with administrative experience, and an Inter-faith minister. She has been teaching art in public and independent schools and community programs in New York City and Long Island for the past ten years. Her pedagogy and administrative approach have been shaped by her studies at the The River Gallery School, The New York Studio School, Teachers College Columbia University, Harvard Project Zero and the IM School of Healing Arts.
